App Store Connect API key

This guide covers how to generate an API key in App Store Connect. It must be done with a user who has the Administrator role.

  1. Sign in to App Store Connect and go to Users and Access > Keys > App Store Connect API.
  2. If this is the first time anyone accesses it, a notice says that permission is required to use the API. Click Request Access.
  3. In the form, check the box accepting the terms of use and click Submit.

Apple approves requests first at organization level and then at individual level. Approval can take some time. Once granted, App Store Connect shows the message “Your request to access the App Store Connect API has been approved”.

With access approved, on the same screen:

  1. Click Generate API Key.
  2. Fill in the form. In Name, an identifying name, for example the project or team name. In Access, the permission level of the key, for example Admin.
  3. Click Generate.

Keep in mind these Apple limitations:

  • Keys do not expire.
  • A key that has been created cannot be modified to give it access to more services.
  • There can be at most 50 active keys at a time.

Once generated, the key appears in the list of active keys with these details:

DetailDescription
Issuer IDUnique identifier of the account, common to all keys. It appears at the top of the list, with the option to copy it.
NameThe name given when it was created.
Key IDUnique identifier of that key.
Generated by, Last used, AccessUsage and permission information.

From that screen you can download the private key file (.p8). Save the file, the Issuer ID and the Key ID and share them with Reskyt through the channel agreed for the project.
